Classroom Conduct
"
Recent studies have shown that classroom courtesy is declining (Schneider, 1998). As a result, the mood of the college classroom has changed. Today it is common to hear college instructors, both tenured and untenured, lamenting the misbehavior of students in their classes, at both undergraduate and graduate levels" (Schroeder & Robertson, 2008).

So that there are no misunderstandings, the following behaviors are unacceptable during our time together:

  1. Talking while I or another student is talking,
  2. Verbally degrading another student or your professor,
  3. Using profanity,
  4. Sleeping in class,
  5. Talking or texting on your cell phone,
  6. Doing homework for another class or my class during lecture time,
  7. Reading an unrelated book, magazine, or newspaper during lecture time,
  8. Sharpening a pencil when I’m teaching. (Bring spare pencils or wait for a pause to ask to sharpen pencils),
  9. Approaching me to ask a question while I’m teaching. (For example coming in late, after I've passed back quizzes or tests, and coming to the front of the room to ask me for yours)
  10. Exhibiting any other behavior that interferes with my teaching and/or the learning process of your peers.

Please see Student Conduct and Discipline for further information.

Cell Phone Policy―ZERO TOLERANCE

  •  The use of cell phones, ipods, ipads, or other communication devices is strictly prohibited during class (they may NOT be used for their calculator capabilities either).
  •  Please turn them off before entering the classroom! Texting during class is disrespectful to me and those around you and is unacceptable.
  •  If anyone sends you a text when they know you're sitting in class, they are disrespecting YOU! Tell them to stop it!
  •  Texting (whether sending or receiving) during a quiz or exam will be viewed as cheating and result in a 0 for that assessment.
  •  This is probably going to sound harsh but if you lack the self―control to do without your phone for our brief time together, you probably shouldn't have one in the first place and you certainly don't belong in our class.
